French and other languages

French is taught from The Nursery to Year 6. Through songs, games and hands-on activities the children are encouraged to take a positive role in oral and aural work throughout the school. As they become more familiar with the spoken word we gradually introduce them to written French.

We have recently purchased a brand interactive white board scheme for our Junior School pupils. This offers a fantastic visual impact to consolidate the spoken vocabulary we introduce.

French Exchange with Ecole St. Pierre d’Ascq

Our Year 5 and 6 pupils have the unique and wonderful opportunity of taking part in an exchange with our partner school in Lille, France. They stay for three days with French hosting families, visit the school and take part in lessons, workshops and day visits with their new French friends. At such a young age we hope that our pupils will have an ever-lasting, first hand experience of French daily life and culture.

Modern Foreign Languages

We also have a lively, active extra-curricular modern foreign languages club. Children learn key vocabulary in German, Spanish and Italian.

This year we are hoping to foster links with a primary school near Verona, Italy.

Latin Club

If you think that Latin is a dead language you have another thing coming! This is one of our liveliest clubs.

We are introduced to Latin by Minimus – a mouse and through songs, poems and plays we learn about the language that is the origin of many others.

Our year usually culminates in our famous Latin plays.

Last year we produced The Three Bears – all in Latin!!
