The Priest House - 2nd February 2010

On Tuesday 2nd February our Year One children visited ‘The Priest House’ in West Hoathly.

The children listened to Mr Smith as he described how life was for those living in the house some 600 years ago.

The fireplace proved fascinating for the children and Mr Smith showed the children the rather strange looking ‘toaster’ - the ‘microwave’.  The children asked many pertinent questions and listened attentively to the answers given.

The children visited the living area, which they noticed was very cold and saw a variety of lanterns, one of which used cow horn rather than glass on its sides.

In the bedrooms the children were rather surprised to hear that four year old children were still expected to sleep in a cot! Worse than that - on moving out the cot they then had to share a bed with seven or so brothers or sisters!

I think all of the children agreed that they would prefer to be living now and not in the ‘olden’ days!
