Daffodil Day 1st March 2010

Year 2 help launch the Marie Curie Cancer Care Great Daffodil Appeal 2010

Year 2 helped paint East Grinstead yellow for Marie Curie Cancer Care when they held a Mini Pots of Care Day on 1st March.

Last Autumn, the children were given a mini pot and daffodil bulb which they planted and cared for throughout the winter.  Mini Pots of Care is a curriculum-linked fundraising initiative which encourages children to think about Marie Curie nurses who care for terminally ill patients in their own homes.

On 1st March the children marked the arrival of spring and the blooming of their daffodils.  They showed off their pots with wrappers which had been individually designed and painted by the children.  They also brought in their fundraising envelopes and had raised £199.30p between them for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

“The children have really enjoyed watching their daffodils grow”, said Year 2 teacher Mrs Clarke. “At the same time they have also been learning why it is important to be caring and kind and they understand that the money will help Marie Curie Nurses look after very ill people in the familiar surroundings of their own homes”.
