Scholarships and Bursaries

A range of scholarships, awards and bursaries are available.

The Sealy Scholarship
This is available to all children in Year 3 and is dedicated to the memory of the founding family of the school. It is sat by all our internal pupils but can also be sat by children outside Fonthill Lodge. It consists of assessments in Literacy, Numeracy, Verbal Reasoning and Non Verbal Reasoning. The assessments take place in January and external applications should be received by the school secretary no later than 22nd January 2010.

Shallis Exhibitions
There are two newly created ‘Shallis Exhibitions’ dedicated to the memory of the late Mrs. Shallis and in celebration of her connections with Fonthill Lodge; these are available for internal candidates only in Year 2. Children will be assessed on a variety of skills and academic ability appropriate to the age range. The award will be reviewed annually and the scholarship committee must be satisfied that the children are performing sufficiently well for the award to continue year on year.

Shallis Academic and Sports scholarships, Chess and Performing Arts Scholarships
Fonthill Lodge has an excellent record in chess, having produced a number of county players and internationals over the years. The school has been associated with Sussex Junior Chess for some years, hosting competitions and masterclasses. Top chess coach Jonathan Tuck teaches every child at some point during their time in the school.

Fonthill Lodge enjoys an excellent reputation in the performing arts, putting on superb performances each year and gaining a number of performing arts scholarships to senior schools. The school also benefits from regular dance classes with the prestigious Roshe School of Dance, who are also offering a reduction in their tuition fees for the successful applicants.

These two associations with Roshe and Sussex Chess make perfect partnerships; Fonthill Lodge is now able to offer Chess Awards and Performing Arts Awards as well as the established Shallis Academic and Sports Awards. The successful candidates will not only benefit from the high standards of tuition available but will receive extra coaching in their Award subject.

Entry forms can be obtained from Anita Westwood the registrar on 01342 321635 and should be returned by 22nd January 2010. The scholarship assessments take place on Saturday 30th January 2010.
